Data Desk Reviews March For Western Civilization: 400 Men, 400 Masks, One Idea
Jin-Ah Park was asked to fact-check the group's claimed attendance. She fact-checked considerably more than that.
The group claimed four hundred marchers, so the number goes first: our review of available footage supports a count between 340 and 400, which means the movement dedicated to rigorous accuracy about civilizational decline rounds itself up like a food delivery app.
The masks-per-marcher ratio held at 1.0 across all observed footage, the most disciplined metric this desk has ever recorded. For comparison: veterans parades, faces visible. Pride parades, faces visible. Little League opening days, faces visible and frequently sticky. The men marching for the future of the nation ran the only parade in the sample dressed for anonymity and a light drizzle of consequences.
"I built a table with a column for each marcher's stated identity. The column is empty. It is the first empty column that has ever finished my work for me." Jin-Ah Park
The Flags
The marchers carried American flags and, in several documented cases, Confederate flags, meaning a nonzero share of the men marching to defend America selected the banner of an army that lost a war against it. In data work this is called a category error. In parade work it is called a preview.
Douglas Merritt reviewed the denominator. Marcus Webb reviewed the footage log. The methodology lunch reviewed nothing and was eaten in the usual silence.
Ideas Per March
The desk attempted to count distinct ideas expressed across ninety minutes of chanting and four banner texts. The final count was one. It is not a new idea. It has a long documented performance record, extensively tested across the twentieth century, with results the marchers appear not to have read.
Methodology note: This desk does not publish the marchers' names because it does not have them. Neither do they, publicly. That was the finding.
