A study claiming that Trump rhetoric caused measurable health damage in American adults has been revised after reviewers noticed that the national conclusion rested on forty-three respondents, fourteen of whom were recruited from the same faculty listserv.

The issue is not that forty-three people are unimportant. People are important. The issue is that forty-three people cannot represent 258 million adults without the sentence doing weight training it has not been cleared to perform.

The Measures

The original paper used self-reported headaches, social media exposure, and a stress scale adapted from a workplace survey designed for dentists. It did not include a clinical exam, a control group matched by baseline news consumption, or a reason the dentist scale was suddenly in politics.

Diane Polk reviewed the health outcomes and found them medically unremarkable. Two respondents reported elevated blood pressure after watching cable news. Polk noted that this also happens during billing disputes, youth soccer, and family conversations about restaurant reservations.

The Revision

The authors have changed the paper's conclusion from Trump rhetoric causes measurable health damage to a narrower statement: some people who already disliked Trump reported feeling worse after reading things about Trump. That conclusion is less viral and more accurate, which is the usual trade.

Anita called the revision constructive. Diane called it better. Gerald called the email chain resolved at message six. There are currently 118 unread replies beneath his declaration.

Methodology note: A small sample can generate a hypothesis. It cannot drive the bus, set the route, and announce arrival in all fifty states.
